Stuck
snow in the forecast.
Never again will I laugh at local schools closing for multiple days before a single snow flake has fallen.
Never again will I joke about people down South not knowing how to drive in inclement weather.
Tennessee is just not equipped to handle inclement weather!
We have been stuck at home for three days.
This morning, our family, over-confident in our snow and ice driving abilities, attempted to venture to church for celebration and worship. An hour and a half later, we were praising God for our safe return home after getting stuck less then a mile from our driveway.
Our neighborhood features beautiful rolling hills, dense woods and picturesque lakes...and roads impossible to travel when covered with 2 inches of solid ice.
Our van, packed with our family of seven, managed to slip and slide for half a mile until we came to the first big hill. We slid down, down, down, and slid up, up, up........down, down down. With absolutely no traction, we were stuck on the road between two big hills. And we weren't the only ones. We watched as three other vehicles attempted the same hills only to slide back and bump our van. Thankfully some neighborhood Samaritans, equipped with 4WDs and a chain, managed to tug us up the hill and we were able to slip and slide our way back home.
We were very fortunate. Our neighborhood fish are now sharing the "big lake" with a Toyota Camry that met its end under 10 feet of water after the driver lost control while crossing the dam (thank goodness the driver was able to bail out before hitting the water).
Needless to say we are just fine with cabin fever and are finding plenty of creative meals from random pantry and freezer foods. :)
