The Eagles had been underdogs all season, but after their HUGE Federal League Championship win, they had high hopes going into this District XC tournament - held on their home course.
The course was wet and the weather was cloudy and cool, but the boys were ready to run and looking ahead to next week's Regionals.
The top 8 teams (of 24) and top 32 individuals (of 165) advance to the Regional Tournament.
Cross Country running is a grueling sport, mentally and physically. So many factors can impact an outcome - and each person goes out hoping to power through to a personal best. Every race is different.
Tesfaye has had an incredible first Division I season in Ohio. He's been running as the second runner on the Eagles squad and his PR time has him ranked among the top 100 runners in the state. At every varsity race this season, he's been finishing among the top 10%.
This race was a tough one for our boy. With so many runners on the course all pushing the pace to earn a spot at Regionals, he got caught in the pack early on and had to fight his way through 3.1 miles. He finished farther back than he had hoped, finishing 31st overall with a time of 16:52.97 - - - which was an immediate advance to Regionals as an individual!!!
AND, while this was first race all season with no Eagle PRs, the Golden Eagles squad finished 6th overall - - - advancing as a team to REGIONALS!!!
We are so pleased to see these boys advance.
They've been working so hard all season and they want it!
GO EAGLES!!!
