In the U.S. there were 57,000 domestic adoptions in 2009.
There were 12,700 international adoptions in 2009.

There are 147 million orphans in our world.

There are kids waiting for help, waiting for hope.

In America, we are so rich. If you picked out your clothes this morning, you are rich. If you decided what to eat or not eat, you are rich. If you are not concerned about being cold tonight, you are rich. Our lives are filled with excess. We have so much to share.
God has called us to look after orphans. Can you open your life to an orphan?
Can you share your excess with a child in need?

God sets the example for adoption: we are all orphans. God chose us, paid the incredibly high price for us and warmly welcomes us into His family. When we become children of God, we forever become privileged members of His family. We are orphans no more.

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress. . . James 1:27

We feel incredibly privileged to be able to open our hearts, our home, and grow our family through adoption. Adoption is God's plan and His calling. If we look at adoption from the world's perspective, it makes no sense. Our lives are busy. But we desire to align ourselves with God's plan and God's work. We may not be able to save all the orphans, but we can permanently welcome a few into our family.

We welcomed our son Burke Zerihun (11 months) home from Ethiopia in November 2007, and were eager to bring our daughter Hanna Hiwot (3 years) and son Jackson Tesfaye (5 years) home in the Spring of 2011.  In May 2015, our family grew once more through the domestic adoption of newborn Addison. 

Adoption is more than providing a home, adoption gives a child a secure and loving environment in which to build relationships, heal and flourish.  God designed loving and secure families to be the best medicine to heal a broken child. Adoption gives a child roots to grow and wings to fly. 

The most amazing thing about our two Ethiopian adoption journeys was the strong convictions that this was exactly God's plan for our family. We were so humbled by God's awesome provision for our family in both of our adoption ventures. God was clearly orchestrating every detail. International adoption has a unique set of challenges and can be emotionally and financially draining. At every step in the process, God provided and gave us peace. We were so blessed. We couldn't have planned this if we had tried, but nothing is impossible with God. Luke 1:37 Adoption is clearly God's plan.
