OBX 2019 - Family

It is such a treat to have an entire week with family . . . especially wonderful when it's a week at the Outer Banks of North Carolina!

OBX holds a special place in all our hearts.  Amy's family has been vacationing at this beach for nearly 30 years - we've been gathering as an extended family at the Outer Banks every other summer for the past 15.  It has been such a joy to revisit this favorite destination regularly - and amazing to watch all these cousins (16) grow up together at the beach.  (This was our first year not having an infant among the group - so much fun to have all "walkers" on the sand).

This year was our third return to "Carpe Diem" - an incredible home on a gorgeous stretch of beach.

A week of perfect beach weather, bigger kids venturing out with new independence, sand castles, boogie boarding, kayaking in the sound, shared meals and shared prep, date nights, souvenir shopping, sleeping on hammocks, puzzle table, pool swimming, game room pool tournaments, kite flying, July 4th sparklers, crabbing, bookstores, beach walks, sunsets . . . we're already looking forward to returning in 2021!!!

This year it was more of a hike for our family to travel to the beach - 36 hours of driving to get there from Minnesota.  We split our drive into three days there, and three days back, extending our vacation to 14 days and taking advantage of our cross country drive to visit family and friends.  We stayed extended time in Cincinnati, getting to see ALL of Mike's family (including our newest newborn niece/cousin, Sybil!), and had stops in Charlotte and Bristol, visiting with good friends and loved neighbors.

It was an amazing vacation for our family.  The ONLY thing we'd change: we'd want MORE time.  We love being at the beach with family :)
