For months, we have been waiting for a snow fall worthy of play . . . it finally came, in the form of slushy ice. We'll take it.
Hendrick:
Well ... most of the time we sled in the backyard and crashed into trees. Sometimes Maclaren would come outside and play on the deck. The girls would play around in the woods and slide on the deck with Maclaren. Kolpin's way of fun is to break ice with a stick and get hit by sleds (which made it very hard to sled).
We only had two sleds so we had to share sleds. There wasn't any snow only ice (which made crashes painful).
Our frozen, slushy yard has been beautiful: glistening, shimmering, and cleanly covered white.
For two days in a row, the kids have been making the most of our slushy, icy yard: sledding across our backyard and making sled paths in the woods, eating icicles, collecting ice leaves, and skating on our frozen deck. As they sled down, in pairs or luge-style, Layla excitedly runs along behind. They go across the yard, crashing into frozen branches, dodging under the swings, and jumping over constructed ramps. The kids have been thrilled with their discovery of frozen leaves - perfect ice molds peeled off our magnolia tree, now collected in our freezer, and the little kids have enjoyed sucking on icicles.
Indoors we've been warming up with hot cocoa and decorating our windows with 6-point paper snowflakes. We're still hoping for snow - we're eager to make a batch of snow ice cream.
I love snow days!
Icicles
I'm a little icicle
Melting in the sun.
Can you see our tiny teardrops
Falling one by one?
The icicles have been dripping all day, but more snow and frozen temperatures are in our forecast, we're hoping for a few more days of frozen fun.
